The LORD Prepares to Rescue his People

Isaiah 59:16-21

The LORD has seen this, and he is displeased that there is no justice. He is astonished to see that there is no one to help the oppressed. So he will use his own power to rescue them and to win the victory.

He will wear justice like a coat of armour and saving power like a coat of armour and saving power like a helmet. He will clothe himself with the strong desire to set things right and to punish his enemies according to what they have done, even those who live in distant lands. From east to west everyone will fear him and his power. He will come like a rushing river, like a strong wind.

The LORD says to his people, I will come to Jerusalem to defend you and to save all of you that turn from your Sins. And I make a covenant with you.

I have given you my power and my teachings to be yours forever, and from your children and your descendants to obey me for all time to come.

May the Lord bless his word, Amen

A Strong Bible Text for God’s Protection Amidst Attacks fro the Enemy

Psamls 91:1-16

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the Fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arror that flies by day.
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side, and then thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the LORD who is my refuge, even the Most High your dwelling place.

No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
For he shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

” Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him and show him My salvation.

May the LORD Bless his word, Amen.

The Wicked One

2 THESSALONIANS 2:1-12

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to be with him: I beg you, my brothers and sisters, not to be so easily confused in your thinking or upset by the claim that the Day of the Lord has come. Perhaps it is thought that we said this while prophesying or preaching, or that we wrote it in a letter. Do not let anyone decieve you in any way.

For the Devil will not come until the final Rebellion takes place and the Wicked One appears, who is destined for hell. He will oppose every so called God or object of worship and will put himself above them all. He will even go in and sit down in God’s Temple and claim to be God.

Don’t you remember? I told you all this while I was with you. Yet there is something that keeps this from happening now, and you know what it is. At the proper time, then, the wicked one will appear. The mysterious wickedness is already at work but what is going to happen will not happen until the one who holds it back is taken out of the way.

Then the Wicked One will be revealed, but when the Lord Jesus comes, he will kill him with the breath from his mouth and destroy him with his dazzling presence. The wicked One will come with the power of Satan and perform all kinds of false miracles and wonders and use every kind of wicked deceit on those who will perish.

They will perish because they did not welcome and love the truth so as to be saved. And so God sends the power of error to work in them so that they believe what is false. The result is that all who have not believed the truth, but have taken pleasure in sin, will be condemned.

May the Lord Bless his Word, Amen

King Solomon Prays for Wisdom

2 Chronicles 1:1-12

Solomon, the son of King David, took firm control of the kingdom of Israel, and the LORD his God blessed him and made him very powerful.
King Solomon gave an order to all the officers in charge of units of a thousand men and of a hundred men, all the government officials, all the heads of families, and all the heads of families, and all the rest of the people, commanding them to go with him to the place of worship at Gibeon.

They went there because that was where the Tent of the LORD’s presence was located, which Moses, the LORD’s servant had made in the wilderness. (The Covenant Box, however, was in Jerusalem, kept in a tent which king David had set up when he brought the Box from Kiriath Jearim.) The bronze altar which had been made by Bezalel, the son of Uri and grandson of Hur, was also in Gibeon in front of the Tent of the LORD’s presence,
King Solomon and all the people worshipped the LORD there. In front of the Tent, the king worshipped the LORD by offering sacrifices on the bronze altar; he had a thousand animals killed and burned whole on it.

That night God appeared to Solomon and asked, “What would you like me to give you?”
Solomon answered, “You always showed great love for my father David , and now you have let me succeed him as King. O LORD God, fulfil the promise you made to my father. You have made me king over a people who are so many that they cannot be counted, so give me the wisdom and knowledge I need to rule over them. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?”.

God replied to Solomon, “You have made the right choice. Instead of asking for wealth or treasure or fame or the death of your enemies or even for long life for yourself, “you have asked for wisdom and knowledge so that you can rule my people, over whom I have made you king. And in addition, I will give you more wealth, treasure, and fame than any king has ever had before or will ever have again”.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen.

King Solomon’s Wealth

1 Kings 10:14-29
Every year King Solomon received almost 23,000 kilogrammes of gold in addition to the taxes paid by merchants, the profits from trade and tribute paid by the Arabian kings and the governor’s of the Israelites districts.
Solomon made 200 large shields, and had each one overlaid with almost 7 kilogrammes of gold. He also made 300 smaller shields, overlaying each one of them with almost 2 kilogrammes of gold. He had all these shields placed in the Hall of the Forest of Lebanon.
He also had a large throne made. Part of it was covered with the finest gold. The throne had six steps leading up to it, with the figure of a lion at each end of every step, a total of twelve lions. At the back of the throne was the figure of a bull’s head, and beside each of the two arms was the figure of a lion. No throne like this had ever existed in any other kingdom.
All of Solomon’s drinking cups were made of gold, and all the utensils in the Hall of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold.No silver was used , since it was not considered valuable in Solomon’s day. He had a fleet of ocean going ships sailing with Hiram’s fleet. Every three years his fleet would return, bringing gold, silver, ivory apes and monkeys.
King Solomon was richer and wiser than any other King, and the whole world wanted to come and listen to the wisdom that God had given him.
Everyone who came brought him a gift articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons, spices, horses and mules.
This continued year after year
Solomon built up a force of 1,400 chariots and 12,000 cavalry horses. Some of them he kept in Jerusalem and the rest he stationed in various other cities. During his reign, silver was as common in Jerusalem as stone, and cedar was as plentiful as ordinary sycamore in the foothills of Judah. The kings’s agents controlled the export of horses from Musri and Cilicia and the export of chariots from Egypt. They supplied the Hottie and Syrian kings with horses and chariots, selling chariots for 600 pieces of silver each and horses for 150 each.

May the Lord bless his Word, Amen.

The New Creation

ISAIAH 66:17-25
The LORD says “I am making a new earth and new heavens. The events of the past will be completely forgotten.
Be glad and rejoice for ever in what I create. The new Jerusalem I make will be filled with joy and her people will be happy. I myself will be filled joy because of Jerusalem and her people.
There will be no weeping there, no calling for help. Babies will no longer die in infancy, and all people will live out their life span. Those who live to be a hundred will be considered young. To die before that would be a sign that I had punished them. People will build houses and live in them themselves, they will not be used by someone else. They will plant vineyards and enjoy the wine, it will not be drunk by others. Like trees, my people will live long lives. They will fully enjoy the things that they have worked for. The work they do will be successful and their children will not meet with disaster. I will bless them and their descendants for all time. Even before they finish praying to me, I will answer their prayers. Wolves and lambs will eat together; lions will eat straw, as cattle do, and snakes will no longer be dangerous. On Zion, my sacred hill there will be nothing harmful or evil.”

May the Lord bless his Word, Amen.

Hearing and Doing What God says in his Word

James 2:19-27
Remember this, my dear brothers and sisters! Everyone must be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to become angry. Human anger does not achieve God’s righteous purpose .
So get rid of every filthy habit and all wicked conduct . Submit to God and accept the word that he plants in your hearts, which is able to save you.
Do not deceive yourselves by just listening to his word; instead, put it into practice . Whoever listens to the word but does not put it into practice is like a man who looks in a mirror and sees himself as he is. He takes a good look at himself and then goes away and at once forgets what he looks like. But those who look closely into the perfect law that sets people free, who keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice, they will be blessed by God in what they do.
Do any of you think you are religious? If you do not control your tongue, your religion is worthless and you deceive yourselves. What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their sufferings and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.

May the Lord bless his Word, Amen

Faith and Wisdom

James 1:1-8
My brothers and sisters, consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure. Make sure that your endurance carries you all the way without failing, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all. But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind.
People like that, unable to make up their minds and undecided in all they do, must not think that they will receive anything from the Lord.

May the Lord bless his Word, Amen

How we are Put Right with God

Romans 3:21-30
But now God’s way of putting people right with himself has been revealed. It has nothing to do with law, even though the Law of Moses and the prophets gave their witness to it. God puts people right through their faith in Jesus Christ. God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all: everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence. But by the free gift of God’s grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free.
God offered him, so that by his blood he should become the means by which people’s sins are forgiven through their faith in him. God did this in order to demonstrate that he is righteous. In the past he was patient and overlooked people’s sins; but in the present time he deals with their sins, in order to demonstrate his righteousness. In this way God shows that he himself is righteous and that he puts right every one who believes in Jesus.
What then, can we boast about? Nothing! And what is the reason for this? Is it that we obey the Law? No, but that we believe. For we conclude that a person is put right with God only through faith, and not by doing what the Law commands. Or is God the God of the Jews only? Is he not the God of the Gentiles also? Of course he is. God is himself on the basis of their faith and will put the Gentiles right through their faith. Does this mean that by this faith we do away with the Law? No, not at all; instead, we uphold the Law.

May the Lord bless his word, Amen

War Between Israel and Judah

2 Samuel 2:12-32
Abner and the officials of Ishbosheth went from Mahanaim to the city of Gibeon. Joab whose mother was Zeruiah, and David’s other officials met them at the pool, where they all say down, one group on one side of the pool and the other group on the opposite side. Abner said to Joab, ” Let’s get some of the young men from each side to fight an armed contest.”
“All right” Joab answered .
So twelve men, representing Ishbosheth and the tribe of Benjamin, fought twelve of David’s men. Each man caught his opponent by the head and plunged his sword into his opponent’s side, so that all 24 of them fell down dead together. And so that place in Gibeon is called “Field of Swords”.
Then a furious battle broke out, and Abner and the Israelites were defeated by David’s men. The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai and Asahel?”
“Yes” he answered .
Stop chasing me! Abner said “Run after one of the soldiers and take what he has.” But Asahel kept on chasing him. Once more Abner said to him. Stop chasing me! Why force me to kill you? How could I face your brother Joab?” But Asahel would not give up; so Abner with a backward thrust of his spear, struck him through the belly so that the spear came out at his back. Asahel dropped to the ground dead and everyone who came to the place where he was lying stopped and stood there.
But Joab and Abishai started out after Abner, and at sunset they came to the hill of Amnah, which is to the east if Giah on the road to the wilderness of Gibeon. The men from the tribe of Benjamin gathered round Abner again and took their stand on the top of a hill.
Abner called out to Joab, Do we have to go on fighting for ever? Can’t you see that in the end there will be nothing but bitterness? We are your fellow-country-men. How long will it be before you order your men to stop chasing us?
“I swear by the living God,” Joab answered, “that if you had not spoken, my men would have kept on chasing you until tomorrow morning,” Then Joab blew the trumpet as a signal for his men to stop pursuing the Israelites; and so the fighting stopped.
Abner and his men marched through the Jordan Valley all that night; they crossed the River Jordan, and after marching all the next morning, they arrived back at Mahanaim.
When Joab gave up the chase, he gathered all his men and found that nineteen of them were missing, in addition to Asahel. David’s men had killed 360 of Abner’s men from the tribe of Benjamin. Joab and his men took Asahel’s body and buried it in the family tomb at Bethlehem. Then they marched all night and at dawn arrived back at Hebron

May the Lord bless his word. Amen
