The LORD is king! Earth, be Glad

Psalms 97:1-12

Rejoice, you islands of the seas! Clouds and darkness surround him; he rules with righteousness and justice.

Fire goes in front of him and burns up his enemies round him. His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees it and trembles. The hills melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the nations see his glory.

Everyone who worships idols is out to shame; all the gods bow down before the LORD. The people of Zion are glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice because of your judgements, O LORD.

LORD Almighty, you are ruler of all the earth; you are much greater than all gods. He protects the lives of his people, he rescues them from the power of the wicked.

light shines on the righteous, and gladness on the good. All you that are righteous be glad because of what the LORD has done! Remember what the holy God has done, and give thanks to him.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen.

The Justice of God

Psalms 73:1-28
God is indeed good to Israel, to those who have pure hearts. But I had nearly lost confidence; my faith was almost gone because I was jealous of the proud when I saw that things go well for the wicked.
They do not suffer pain; they are strong and healthy.

They do not have the troubles that others have. And so they wear pride like a necklace and violence like a robe; their hearts pour out evil and their minds are busy with wicked schemes. They laugh at other people and speak of evil things; they are proud and make plans to oppress others.
They speak evil of God in heaven and give arrogant orders to everyone on earth, so that even God’s people turn to them and eagerly believe whatever they say.

They eagerly believe whatever they say.
They say, God will not know, the Most High will not find out.”
That is what the wicked are like. They have plenty and are always getting more.
Is it for nothing, then that I have kept myself pure and have not committed sin? O God, you have made me suffer all day long every morning you have punished me.

If I had said such things, I would not be acting as one of your people.
I tried to think this problem through, but it was too difficult for me untill I went into your Temple. Then I understand what will happen to the wicked.
You will put them in slippery places and make them fall to destructions! They are instantly destroyed; they go down to a horrible end.
They are like a dream that goes away in the morning; when you rouse yourself, O Lord, they disappear.

When my thoughts were bitter and my feelings were hurt, I was as stupid as an animal; I did not understand you. Yet I always stay close to you, and you hold me by the hand. You guide me with your instruction and at the end you will receive me with honour. What else have I in heaven but you?
Since I have you, what else could I want on earth?
My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is my strength ; he is all I ever need.

Those who abandon you will certainly perish; you will destroy those who are unfaithful to you.
But as for me, how wonderful to be near God, to find protection with the sovereign LORD and to proclaim all that he has done!

May the LORD bless his word, Amen.

Opposition to Rebuilding Jerusalem

Ezra 4:1-5
At the begining of the reign of Xerxes the emperor, the enemies of the people living in Judah and Jerusalem brought written charges against them.
Again, in the reign of Artaxexers, emperor of Persia, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and their associates wrote a letter to the emperor. The letter was written in Aramaic and was to be translated when read.

Also Rehum, the governor, and Shimshai, secretary of the province, from their associates, the judges and from all the other officials, who are men originally from Erech of Elam, together with the other people’s whom the great and powerful Ashurbanipal moved from their homes and settled in the city of Samaria and elsewhere in the province of West Euphrates.

This is the text of the letter:
To Emperor Artaxerxes from his servants, the men of West Euphrates.
“We want Your Majesty to know that the Jews who came here from your other territories have settled in Jerusalem and are rebuilding that evil and rebellious city. They will soon finish them. Your Majesty, if this city is rebuilt and it’s walls are completed , the people will stop paying taxes, and your royal revenues will decrease. Now because we are under obligation to your Majesty, we do not want to see this happen, and so we suggest that you will discover that this city has always been rebellious and that from ancient times it has given trouble to kings and to rulers of provinces. It’s people have always been hard to govern. This is why the city was destroyed.

We therefore are convinced that if the city is rebuild and it’s walls are completed, Your Majesty will no longer be able to control the province of West Euphrates.
The emperor sent this answer:
“To Rehum, the governor, to Shimshai, secretary of the province, and to their associates who live in Samaria and in the rest of West Euphrates greetings.

“The letter which you sent has been translated and read to me. I gave orders for an investigation to be made, and it has indeed been found that from ancient times Jerusalem has revolted against royal authority and that it has been full of rebels and troublemakers. Powerful kings have reigned there and have ruled over the entire province of West Euphrates, collecting taxes and revenue. Therefore you are to issue orders that those men are to stop rebuilding the city until I give further commands. Do this at once, so that no more harm may be done to my interests.

As soon as this letter from Artax erxes was read to Rehum, Shimshai, and their associates, they buried to Jerusalem and forced the Jews to stop rebuilding the city.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen

A Prayer of Trust in God

Psalms 31:1-24

I come to you LORD, for protection; mnever let me defeated. You are a righteous God; save me, I pray! Hear me! Save me now!
You are my refuge and defence; guide me and lead me as you have promised. Keep me safe from the trap that has been set for me; shelter me from danger.

I place myself in your care. You will save me LORD; you are a faithful God, You hate those who worship false gods, but i trust you.
I will be glad and rejoice because of your constant love.

You see my sufferings; you know my trouble.
You have not let my enemies capture me; you have given me freedom to go where i wish.
Be merciful to me, LORD, for i am in trouble, my eyes are tired from so much crying;
I am completely worn out, i am exausted by sorrow, and weeping has shortened my life.
I am weak from all my troubles; even my bones are waiting away.

All my enemies and especially my neighbours, treat me with contempt; those who know me are afraid of me;
when they see me in the street, they run away. Everyone has forgotten me, as though i were dead; i am like somethimg thrown away. I hear many enemies whispering terror is all round me,
But my trust is in you, O LORD, you are my God.
I am always in your care; save me from my enemies, from those who persecute me.

Look on your servant with kindness; save me in your constant love, I call to you, LORD; dont let me be disgraced; may the wicked be disgraced. may they go silently down to the world of the dead. Silence those liars, all the proud and arrogant who speak with contempt about the righteous.
How wonderful are the good things you keep for those who honour you. Everyone knows how good you are, how securely you protect those who trust you.

You hide them in the safety of your presence from the plots of others; in a safe shelter you hide them from insults of their enemies.
Praise the LORD, How wonderfully he showed his love for me, when i was surrounded and attacked!
I was afraid and though that he had driven me out of his presence.

But he heard my cry when i called to him for help.
Love the LORD, all his faithful people. Th LORD protects the faithful, but punishes the proud as they deserve. Be strong, be courageous all you that hope in the LORD.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen.

Satan Test Job

Job 1:1-12

There was a man named Job, living in the land of Uz, who worshipped God and was faithful to him. He was a good man, careful not to do anything evil.
He had seven sons and three daughters, and owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 1,000 head of cattle, and 500 donkeys.

He also had a large number of servants and was the richest man in the East.
Job’s sons used to take it in turns to give a feast, to which all the others would come, and they always invited their three sisters to join them.

The morning after each feast, Job would get up early and offer sacrifices for each of his children In order to purify them. He always did this because he thought that one of them might have sinned by insulting God unintentionally.

When the day came for the heavenly beings to appear before the LORD, Satan was there among them.
The LORD asked him, What have you been doing?
Satan answered, “I have been walking here and there, roaming round the earth.”
“Did you notice my servant Job?” the LORD asked. “There is no one on earth as faithful and good as he is. He worship me and is careful not to do anything evil.”

Satan replied, “Would Job worship you if he got nothing out of it? You have always protected him and his family and everything he owns. You have always protected him and his family and everything he owns, You bless everything he does, and you have given him enough cattle to fill the whole country. But now suppose you take away everything he has, he will curse you to your face!
“All right,” the LORD said to Satan, “everything he has is in your power, but you must not hurt Job himself. So Satan left.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen

Elisha and the Rich Woman from Shunem

2 Kings 4:8-25
One day Elisha went to Shunem, where a rich woman lived. She invited him to a meal, and from then on every time he went to Shunem, he would have his meals at her house. She said to her husband, “I am sure that this man who comes here so often is a holy man. Lets build a small room on the roof, put a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp in it, and he can stay there whenever he visits us”.

One day Elisha returned to Shunem and went up to his room to rest. He told his servants Gehazi to go and call the woman. When she came, he said to Gehazi, Ask her what I can do for her in return for all the trouble she has had in providing for our needs, Maybe she would like me to go to the king or the army commander and put in good word for her.”

“I have all I need here among my own people,” she answered.
Elisha asked Gehazi, “What can I do for her then?”
He answered, “Well, she has no son, and her husband is an old man”
Tell her to come here,” Elisha ordered. She came and stood in the doorway, and Elisha said to her, ” By this time next year, you will be holding a son in your arms.”

“Oh! she exclaimed. Please, sir don’t lie to me. You are a man of God!”
But , as Elisha had said, at about that time, the following year she gave birth to a son.
Some years later, at harvest time, the boy went out one morning to join his father, who was in the field with the harvest workers. Suddenly he cried out to his father, ” My head hurts! My head hurts!
Carry the boy to his mother,” the father said to a servant. The servant carried the boy back to his mother, who held him in her lap until noon, at up to Elisha’s room, put him on the bed and left, closing the door behind her.

Then she called her husband and said to him, “Send a servant here with a donkey. I need to go the prophet Elisha . I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Why do you have to go today?” her husband asked. “It’s neither a Sabbath nor a New Moon Festival.”
“Never mind,” she answered . Then she had the donkey saddled, and ordered the servant, Make the donkey go as fast as it can, and don’t slow down, unless I tell you to,” So she set out, and went to Mount Carmel, where Elisha was.

Elisha saw her coming while she was still some distance away, and said to his servant Gehazi, “Look there comes the woman from Shunem!
Hurry to her and find out if everything is all right with her, her husband, and hee son.”
She told Gehazi that everything was all right, but when she came to Elisha, she bowed down before him and took hold of his feet. Gehazi was about to push her away, but Elisha said, Leave her alone. Can’t you see she’s deeply distressed? And the LORD has not told me a thing about it.”

The woman said to him, “Sir , did I ask you for a son? Didn’t I tell you not to raise my hopes?
Elisha turned to Gehazi and said “Hurry! Take my stick and go. Don’t stop to greet anyone you meet, and if anyone greets you, don’t take time to answer. Go straight to the house and hold my stick over the boy.”

The woman said to Elisha, “I swear by my loyalty to the living LORD and to you that I will not leave you! So the two of them started back together. Gehazi went on ahead and held Elisha’s stick over the child, but there was no sound or any other sign of life. So he went back to meet Elisha and said, ” The boy didn’t wake up.”

When Elisha arrived, he went alone into the room and saw the boy lying dead on the bed. He closed the door and prayed to the LORD. Then he lay down on the boy, placing his mouth , eyes and hands on the boys mouth, eyes and hands. As he lay stretched out over the boy, the boy’s body started to get warm.
Elisha called Gehazi and told him to call the boy’s mother.

When she came in, he said to her, “Here is your son.” She fell at Elisha’s feet, with her face touching the ground; then she took her son and left.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen.

God still speaks

During hard times, we can feel lost or even abandoned by God. Many people question if God is aware of us and if He leads and guides us.

But God truly does live, and He speaks to us. He is the same God who saved Noah from the flood, parted the Red Sea, and led Israel into the promised land. And He has the power to work miracles in your life too. He will hear and answer your prayers. He will guide you through life. He will help you learn His message for you if you seek Him out.

Promise and Instruction from God

Exodus 24:20-33

I will send angel ahead of you to protect you as you travel and to bring you to the place which I have prepared. Pay attention to him and obey him.

Do not rebel against him, for I have sent him and he will not pardon such rebellion. But if you obey him and do everything I command, I will fight against all your enemies. My angel will go ahead of you and take you into the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I will destroy them.

Do not bow down to their gods or worship them, and dot adopt their religious practices.
Destroy their gods and break down their sacred stone pillars. If you worship me, the LORD your God, I will bless you with food and water and take away all your illness. In your land no woman will have a miscarriage or be without children. I will give you long lives.

I will make the people who oppose you afraid of me; I will bring confusion among the people against whom you fight, and I will make all your enemies turn and run from you, I will throw your enemies into panic; I will drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites as you advance. I will not drive them out within one year; If I did the land would become deserted, and the wild animals would be too many for you. Instead, I will drive them out little by little, until there are enough of you to take possession of the land.

I will make the borders of your land extend from the Gulf of Aqaba to the Mediterranean Sea and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give you power over the inhabitants of the land, and you will drive them out as you advance. Do not make any agreement with them or with their gods. Do not let those people live in your country; if you do, they will make your Sins against me. If you worship their gods, it will be a fatal trap for you”.

May the LORD bless his Word, Amen.

The Ten Commandments of God

Exodus 29:1-17

God spoke, and these were his words: “I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you were slaves.

” Worship no god but me”.
” Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth. or in the water under the earth. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generations. But I show my love to thousands of generations” of those who love me and obey my laws.

Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the LORD your God, will punish anyone who misuses my name.
Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work, neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country.

In six days I, the LORD, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.
Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you.

“Do not commit murder”
“Do not commit adultery”
“Do not steal”
“Do not accuse anyone falsely”
“Do not desire another man’s house; do not desire his wife, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns”.

May the LORD bless his word, Amen.
